years ago Soroptimists established a home for women in recovery from alcohol and drug addictions. |
||||||||||||||||
| The Desert Host Springs House was established in October 1981 and the Banning House in September 1989. They serve the greater desert, mountain and San Gorgonio Pass areas as well as all of Riverside County. In residential settings they provide food, shelter, clothing (if needed) and recovery services based on the 12 step recovery programs to ambulatory and mentally competent alcoholic and chemically dependent women. | ||||||||||||||||
| Residents are offered intensive, empathetic recovery opportunities while at the house in their normal 90 day stay. Upon completing the program residents are eligible to rent a place to live in our re-entry home, Hope's Horizons in Desert Hot Springs for a maximum of 4 months. | ||||||||||||||||

Soroptimists serve on the Board of Directors for the House of Hope. |
||||||||||||||||
| Each club sends a representative to each meeting. | ||||||||||||||||
| Each Soroptimist Club in the Coachella Valley conducts a "Shower" each year for the House of Hope. | ||||||||||||||||
| Needed items such as linens, paper products for bath and kitchen, and personal care items are gathered and distributed to the clients of the house who come to visit at that club meeting. Time is allotted for them to tell their stories if they wish. It is a good time for the members to connect with these women and understand the struggle they have a wives, mothers and daughters. | ||||||||||||||||
| Periodically the Board of the House of Hope lets the clubs know if there are larger items needed. Sometimes appliances need replacing or carpet or tile. Some clubs go into the house and help paint the walls or assist with landscape cleanup. It is a good "hands on" project for the Soroptimists. | ||||||||||||||||
| Often you will find the current clients attending special functions of the Soroptimist clubs and they are always welcome. | ||||||||||||||||
